This is the official guide for getting started here on the wilds!
Please check out other members guides if you find this one is lacking, but also know that this guide was created by the admin and is the only official guide!
Rules
The rules can be found here, please look them over to gather a better understanding of this forum.
Punishments
Punishments will be very rare here, please do not be afraid that if you make one wrong step you'll be banned! I try to be a normal human and not throw my weight around, so instead of punishments if you break a rule or do something wrong, I'll instead try my best to just talk to you and sort things out.
The Grey
The Grey is a joint forum created by me, which is in the same universe as The Wilds. Dogs can travel between these two forums easily. The grey can be found here, it's basically the human part of the world, and is south of the Wilds.
Accounts
Multiple accounts are allowed, a user can have an ooc account and then create multiple character accounts, or a user can just have one account and post with all of their characters on that account. Know that we personally prefer a single account per user, but that you have the freedom to make multiple accounts for your characters.
Terrain
The terrain of the wilds was designed by me, you can find it here. It's very wishy washy, anything that isn't specifically labeled can be expanded on. If you plan to create a place for your character to live, please think it out well, and then dm me if you'd like me to make a board for this territory. The description of the territory will change depending on whether your character or their packmates patrol the territory. To patrol your territory, make a thread once a week with at least one post where your character patrols their borders, and label it in parenthesis as a patrol. If you do not patrol for one week, it will be noted in your board's description. If you do not patrol for a month, it will be noted in your board's description that the territory is basically free reign. You character can of course defend their territory, but know that it could easily be invaded if not patrolled regularly. Some dogs may even trespass on your territory even if you do patrol, but this is very dangerous for said dog.
Characters
There is no character application template and you needn't apply your dog or wolf or coyote anywhere. Just think them out, try to put thought into their personality and past and why they are the way they are or why they are where they are, and plop em down somewhere! Any kind of character design is welcome, characters with deviating names, appearances, sexualities, and genders are all allowed!
Hunting
The hunting system here is basically: do whATEVER YOU WANT! Seriously. There aren't dice to roll or posts to wait for, however its HIGHLY suggested that you check out the prey population map, here, to be accurate.
Claiming
When claiming land, you must make four threads, with four posts in each, of your dog and their packmates claiming a certain part of land. Once this is complete, dm me and I'll make a board for you! Know that claiming land is different than making a home as described in Terrain. Claiming land allows for many dogs to live there, for a pack to form, and for much more prey to be caught. It calls for a higher status and much more control over the land. But with this, it also requires more maintenance. Two patrol threads a week must be made with at least one post in each describing your dog or your dog's packmates patrolling the land, these threads should be labelled as patrol in parenthesis. If this requirement is not met, it will be noted in your board's description that the borders have become stale and that the land might be abandoned or vulnerable.
Pups
Puppies are super fun, and because I don't want to limit my fellow members, all litters will be designed by the parents' rpers! They don't have to be genetically accurate, and there can be as many or as little puppies as you want. They can have multiple fathers, or just one, its all up to you. When you've decided on the puppies, you can make a thread in the adoption board and give away the puppies here, unless you want to rp them yourself. Try to work together with the other parent, it's not just your choice or theirs, its a joint effort! The only exception I can think of to this is if you want to design all the puppies, and the other parent doesn't want to design any- in which case, go wild!
Fighting and killing
When staging a fight, try to work together with your opponent. Be specific and detailed in your posts, and try not to force any injuries on other characters. If someone is forcing injuries on your character that you don't want, dm them and try to work it out. Instead of saying things like "Alpha slash Ginger, blinding her." say this: "Alpha swung his paw diagonally, aiming to blind Ginger. His swipe was quick, it would be a hard attack to evade." Also, ry not to let your character evade every attack on him and land every attack on his opponent, try to let your character lose some and win some. This makes it more interesting, tense, and fun for all of us! When you wish to kill another character, ask the roleplayer's permission. If they say no, please respect their decision and do not kill their character. If your character is trying to kill a pup, you don't need permission to do so, however if the parents are around during the rp, then you must ask the parents' roleplayers for permission. If they say no, then they will defend their pup and you will not be able to kill it. If the parent isn't around, pups are vulnerable and can be killed easily.
Time
This site goes by fluid or liquid time. Your character can be in multiple places at once, however if you favor traditional time, you can easily avoid this by just keeping track of where your character is.
